MARINE TIMES NEWS November 6th:
Thirty Thousand Three Hundred and Four Euro!
This magnificent sum was raised in a single summer’s day by the Kilmuckridge RNLI Fundraising Committee.
Every cent was raised legitimately. (now, the traffic and public auction laws may have been stretched a little) It was all as a result of the generosity of the Kilmuckridge and surrounding community.
This community raises funds every year for Rosslare Harbour RNLI. Last year's haul was over €28,000.
Eddie Sinnott credited the community for its generosity and it's passion for expensive - very expensive - spuds!
Huge sums are paid for modest bags of potatoes at the auction.
Boats are pulled; cars "hijacked" for cash, and raffle tickets sold. The cheque presentation took place in Hammell's Public House on Saturday, November 2nd. Jamie Ryan, Rosslare Harbour RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, thanked all for their amazing work. He said that maintaining a lifeboat service costs money; a lot of money.
"RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. It is independent of government both here on the island of Ireland and in the United Kingdom. We depend entirely on public donations. As Jamie, remarked, ‘thank you’ is a fairly lame term for such generosity. But, thank you, we do. Each and everyone of you.""
