MARINE TIMES NEWS May 7th:
Classic Car Run Supports Aran Islands Lifeboat Station for the 10th Consecutive Year

On Sunday night (4 May) the organisers of the Classic Car Run presented a cheque for €1010 to the Aran Islands Lifeboat Station.

Seventeen vintage cars, driven from across Ireland, began their journey on Friday (2 May) and headed West towards Inis Mór for the long weekend. Members of the Classic Car Run left their cherished cars in the safe hands of the roll-on roll-off ferry while the car owners travelled by passenger ferry to the island. They were reunited with their vintage cars on Inis Mór and thus began their journey around the rugged island for the long weekend.

A highlight of the weekend was the presentation of Car of the Year award that went to Craig Fox who’s pristine 1978 Mini Cooper caught the admiration of fellow participants. He was awarded the Jack Nulty Memorial Award.

Speaking to Brendan Gaynor, Organiser of the Classic Car Run, he said ‘It’s great to come out to the island for another year. People gather from all over – Offaly, Limerick, Claremorris, Kildare – It’s like a family gathering now.’

Fundraising Treasurer, Margaret Gill said: ‘It’s great that the organisation has chosen to raise funds for the Aran Islands Lifeboat Station for another year. Many people don’t realise that the RNLI is a charity and is dependent on support from the public. We are extremely grateful for their contribution to the RNLI to help save lives at sea.'
