Helvick Head RNLI volunteer recognised for 20 years service

Helvick Head RNLI volunteer Anne Harrington is to be recognised by the charity that saves lives at sea with a 20 year Long Service Award.

Anne joined the Dungarvan and Helvick Head RNLI fundraising branch in 2006. Since then, she has played a central role in supporting the charity’s lifesaving work. Over the past two decades, she has served in several officer positions including Honorary Vice Chair and Honorary Secretary and has contributed to a wide range of fundraising initiatives and branch activities.

Anne’s commitment was recognised in 2013 when she was awarded the RNLI’s Bronze Badge in recognition of her service, and in 2017 she was invited to Buckingham Palace, where she was honoured for her outstanding voluntary support of the RNLI.

Over the years, Anne has been closely involved in organising and supporting many of the branch’s key fundraising events, including the RNLI reindeer runs, the annual sponsored swim, barbecues, and pier activities. She has also supported volunteer recruitment and represented the branch locally and regionally.

Connie Kiersey, RNLI Community Manager said: ‘Helvick Head RNLI’s annual service held each May is of particular significance to Anne, and she has consistently shown compassion and support to families affected by loss at sea. Anne’s dedication over the past 20 years has made a significant difference to the branch and the funds the team has raised. Her commitment and energy have helped strengthen the support that enables the volunteer crew to save lives at sea.’

Liam Harty, Helvick Head RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager added: ‘Anne always has the best interests of the RNLI at heart in everything she does. We are extremely grateful to her for her selfless dedication and for all she has done and continues to do which. Her work along with her fellow volunteers in the branch, ensures our crew have the right kit, training and skills to help them when their pagers go off and they go to the aid of someone in need.’

Anne will receive her 20 years Long Service Award later this year.
